1/28/2013

Please respond to the following essential questions with a minimum of 50 words for each question.  Your initial response is due on Thursday each week, and your response to a classmate is due on Sunday.

Julius Caesar Essential Questions:

Restate the questions in your answer! Remember,  you must have at least a 50 word response.

1. Does the end justify the means?

2. How does a person make ethical choices?

Alvin O. per 5

1) Not always because the end results can shadow out how you reached your conclusions. For example, you got an A in class at the end of the year, but you cheated your way through in order to receive that A.

2) You make ethical choices by thinking hardly before you take action. I have always thought about ditching school, but always ended up feeling bad and never did ditch school. With this I was able to learn in class efficiently and pass.

I like your example for answer 1. I do think that the false conclusions do happen sometimes, and that the end does now justify the means. I like how your examples help others visualize the point you are trying to make. I like your anser to question 2 as well.

Dinh T, Period 5

I like your reply on the second question. I also agree that in order to make ethical choices, you need to think before you take action and do what you believe is the right thing to do.

I agree and respect on your example #2 cause can be lesson to kids and everywhere on making a tough decision. Cause the decision u makes can be good or be bad. Your example really shows kids on what to do that is the right thing.

1) The end doesn’t always justify the means. In a situation where someone does something for the benefit of themselves or someone else, but that person loses something thing in return, it doesn’t justify the means. When it is a situation where the person does something and benefits from it without losing anything in return, is when the end justifies the mean.
2) Most people make ethnical choices by following a feeling that makes them feel right and not guilty. The way most people make their ethnical choices is from the way that they were raised as a child, for example if someone was raised improperly, then that person would have an ethnical way of making decisions because they wouldn’t feel any bad feelings when doing unethical things such as guilt or shame .

I agree with your post for number one because people always try to do anything in order to live even if they have to sacrifice something dear to them. They always will regret it but it wouldn't change anything.

Dominic Garcia Per.5

1) not always people will set goals for themselves and try hard or not try at all through cheating or being honest. It all depends on the person that really wants to acommplish their goal. When you do something for someone you can either get or not get something in return and you doing what the person wants it helps yourself out knowing you can do things.
2) it all depends on the person some are nice and some are bad and not care for many people maybe certain ones. It also depends on how they were raised and if they were raised good then they might do a lot for any person. those that weren't raised well then they probably don't care for anyone on those in their everyday life. yet they still help someone. its life that tells if they would help anyone for anything.

Andrew L. , Period 5

1. The ends do not always justify the means. Most individuals would consider success the most important thing in life, and any would do whatever it takes to achieve this invaluable part of life. These individuals would do anything as in to cheat or lie or even play dirty to reach the desired outcome. In society, most big corporate companies would do whatever it takes to get the most consumers as well as the name at the top of the market. They only want results and care for the results which they believe that the ends justify the means.

2. An individual would make ethical choices based upon how they are feeling, what their conscious tells them, and the long hard deep thinking wondering about the choice and the future outcomes the choice plays out. Most individuals would follow their heart, to be true to their heart. When one makes a choice such to lie or cheat or be mischievous, they will wonder the possibilities to how that would work, how it would play out. Such as improper mischievous behavior from students, may reflect upon their family to maybe why they did what they did and maybe reflect upon their attitude and lifestyle based on what they feel like doing, which is the ethical decision made from the heart.

1. The ends do not always justify the means when it comes to using immoral methods. The ends might have had a good result; however, the ways or "means" to achieving it are not always ethical and right to do. For example, some students might result to cheating in order to get a higher grade in a class. Getting a better grade in a class is great, but the fact that the student cheated to get it is not the right thing to do.
2. A person makes ethical choices through their own beliefs on what is right and wrong. Some people might do the wrong thing because they are willing to by any means do whatever it takes tin order to get their desired "ending".

Alvin O. per. 5

I believe that your view on ethical choices and means of justifying matters are highly sophisticated and that it also serves as a great model for many societies.

An H., Period 5

I agree with what you said about the uses of immoral ways. If one use immoral ways to achieve their goal, then what they get in the end isn't a result that counts as justified.

Andrew L. Period 5

The claim presented is much satisfying in a worldly view whereas there are individuals who would go so far and stoop so low, disregarding their moral values and their respect by others. These individuals are shameless to what they have done to achieve what they desire.

Dinh T, Period 5

1) The end does not always justify the means. Sometimes the person who cheated their way to get what they want becomes the winner and sometimes, the person who is just ends up losing things that are important to him or her. If the good person doesn't lose what’s important to him or her, then the ending can justify the means.

2)A person makes ethical choices when the person does what he or she believes is right to them. Sometimes, their decision can be wrong, but they can change with the support of others. If the person can’t decide what’s right or wrong, they just have to think about it more to make the decision.

Lika M. Period 5

I agree with your claim. Because people are so desperate to get what they want, they are willing to "put aside" and ignore their morals and ethical beliefs and perform the complete opposite. This also connects with the choices they make. People can make ethical choices through thinking more about their ending than the means they took to get to that ending.

Cergio Angel Period 5

1) The end can sometimes justify the means in good ways. Like if someone were to help out many sick people get better using your skills back in medicial training knowing which certain medicines to take.
2) A person can make their ethical choice on whatever situation they may be in. Yet it also depends on their certain emotion at the time which can vary on certain decisions they make on the way their feeling or have been told.

Eric Lo, Period 5

1. The end doesn't always justify the means. In an event that can push people closer or tear people farther apart. The end of something doesn't always have to be the final note. There can always be a sequel and there can always be something good coming from something bad.
2. Ethnic choices are choices that affect anyone or anything for the great of doing good. Like killing someone is not a ethnic choice that anyone can live with but they do it anyway. I feel that ethnic choices are what you believe is good and what you feel you are doing right.

justin tang per 5
2/5/2013 04:44:39 am

I agree with your claims. Just because it says its the end doesnt meant it actually is the end. Ethnic choices are what you believe in and that is a good definition of it because if you feel that you are doing it right, you probably are doing it correctly.

Aren Lim Period 5

1. I don't think that the end justify's the means. There are different outcomes to everything. Doing one thing different could have potentially changed your whole life. An example is not studying for a final exam, and failing the class, when you could have picked up a book and tried to change your results.

2. People make ethical choices by following what their conscience tells them. One's actions reflect on one's own thought process.

Brandon Yip Period 5

I agree on both of your explanations they both fit as the right answer. Ethical choices can be made by observing life within a city or by making the right choices for the people.

Eric Lo, Period 5

I agree with this explanation that the end don't justify the means. There are other options then the one way everything has to end with. The way you choose to how to end things are up to you and that is completely up to the chooser.

Wei L. Period 5

1)The end not always justifies the means. The beginning and the middle sometimes justifies the mean. The end just follows.
2)Many people make ethical choices by thinking towards the safe route. They tend to stay away from trouble. People also learn to choose the right choice by going to school and getting educated.

Aron I. Period 5

I like how you described your response to number two. I think it makes sense that people learn how to make ethical choices by going to school and trying to stay out of trouble.

An H., Period 5

1) The end doesn't always justify the means. Depending on the situation, what happens in the end depends on what happen during the situation. If something bad happen during the situation, and while some people are happy about the ending, if other people is not happy with it, then the end is not justified. However, if everybody turned out happy in the end, even if the situation was horrible, the the end justify the mean.

2) People make ethical choices by doing what they believe is correct. For example, even if it is a bad situation and the choice they made seem like a bad choice to other people, it doesn't matter as long as the person who made the choice believe that what they are doing is correct, since everybody has different opinion on things.

Tara D., Per.5

1.The end doesn't necessarily justify the means because sometimes for us, things are easier said than done. There are a lot of outcomes to everything and most of the time they are not the results you wanted. So it's something that we really don't need to waste our time on by doing non-ethical things just to get what we want.

2. I think a person is raised and are taught to know how to make the ethical choices whether they are what they had wanted or not. Influence from other people to is one way how people make ethical choices. They usually try to choose the right choice but it depends on a lot of things.

Domininc Garcia Per.5
2/7/2013 12:58:29 pm

I think how tara says about peoples ethical choices is by also how they choose. That is because people see a lot through sight and process it in their heads and think if its right or wrong and through all from what they see it makes them either choose bad or good choices.

Jeffery W.,Period 5
2/3/2013 06:24:55 am

1. I don't think the end justifies what it means. The end is usually a new beginning after every ending. It could never determine the outcome of the story after the end.
2. People can make ethical choices by believing what they are doing is correct based on previous decisions. Anyone would want to stray from trouble or discontent. If you believe you are doing something correct or right, then do so.

Benjamin L., Period 5
2/3/2013 12:32:10 pm

1.) Not all the time “ends” justify something or anything. Since anything can happen which are unexpected? Many things can change a lot but everything will be done. Possible things can happen that can lead to tragedy or glories. It all depends on life and how much you believe in.
2.) It takes a lot of hard work. The reason is the amount of thinking and decision making . Some decision making can be good and some can be bad. For example, like should I just give up since on a project that is due tomorrow and I have not started, it can cause sad and bad personality. Cause I was able to not give up and just stay up all night working on the project, it would be worth it cause it will allow myself get a better score on my grade.

Courtney T Per 5

1.The end doesn't necessarily justify its means, but it does most times. Everything you do is the means to an end, such as eating breakfast to stave off hunger. So usually the end result you wish to achieve is justified by the means used. It's when you do something which causes harm in an effort to achieve something that it doesn't hold true.
2.People make ethical choices by believing in their heart, There are two path one is leading you to the right road and one isn't. If the person choices the wrong road and something happens to them, they are always correct it by support of their family and friends.

Jacelyn K, Per 5

1. The end doesn't always justify the means. Though your intentions could be for the good, the way achieved could be bad. For example, in hypothetical inquiry- to torture a person could save many lives. Would it be right or wrong?

2. A person makes ethical choices on what society has taught them. Society covers their parents, relatives, adults, and human in general. Human are born pure, without the sense of right and wrong. That develops through society and cultural thinking. Therefore, ethical choices and decisions vary from person to person.

Jeanette F period 5

I found your first paragraph to be very interesting. I like how you made it end with a question. And I agree that a person makes ethical choices on what society has taught.

Cally M., Period 5
2/3/2013 01:48:01 pm

In my opinion, the end does not justify the means. If one’s journey was dishonest or immoral, it defeats the purpose of the whole situation.

A person makes ethical choices through self discipline and the use of moral sense. One’s ability or decision to make ethical choices is based on the morals that have been instilled in them through demonstration or direction. Therefore, if someone is surrounded by honorable and sincere people, it is likely that person is likely to make ethical choices.

Brandon Yip Period 5

1.) The end can't always justify the means because sometimes there are things that can't be justified in a certain way. Julius's need for power caused his death which can or not be justified.

2.) A person can make ethical choices by observing the aspect of life within a city as a governor or making the right choices for the people, like what the president's choices are.

justin tang per 5
2/5/2013 04:49:38 am

1) The end does not justify the meaning. Just because there is an end to something, its still has the chance of it coming back. There's no definite answer to when their is an end to something, it just keeps going on and on.

2) Ethical choices should make you feel warm inside, knowing that you just did something good for society. If you are proud to say you did that, then it is probably a good ethical choice you made. But on the other hand, if you are not proud that you did something , it isn't probably not the best choice you could have made.

Jeanette Fierro Period 5
2/7/2013 04:53:36 am

1. I believe that the end sometimes justifies the meaning, because the meaning may be a lesson, moral, humor, and may others. When there is a lesson to be learned about the story, the reader would understand and learn the lesson from the end. When there is humor as the meaning of the story, the meaning is not at the end but all over the place. It could be in the rising action, climax, or even the introduction of a story.

2. A person makes ethical choices by thinking things out and knowing the pros and cons to the event.
